Butterfly with Ribands
Butterfly with Ribands is silk and metal thread embroidery on Congress Cloth. The butterfly is created with Pearsall’s filoselle silk embroidery floss, assorted metallic threads, such as twists and metal purls. The Ribands are traditional geometric designs found in Japanese art forms.
Techniques include laid work, couching, padded satin stitch, rice stitch shading, encroaching gobelin shading, upright gobelin, a composite stitch, upright gobelin, and with a Kogin darning pattern in DMC 6-stranded cotton and blending filament as the background pattern.
The piece including the background is approximately 10 x 10.5 inches
