Ribbons: Traditional Patterns
Geometric patterns are found in all Japanese art. The patterns in this study can be found in imari plates, fabrics, paintings, on pottery, woven mats, ties for obis to name a few. The patterns to be interpreted in this study are the flax leaf pattern, nami, tortoise, and the ajiro zashi (a weaving) pattern. The colors chosen for this study are reminiscent of the dark blues and iron reds found in the very old imari designs. The background areas between the ribbons are pale peach in the jizashi stitch.
The kit materials are basic to Rozashi. Silk, mixed (brocade), and metallic threads are used. The ground is silk ro. The kit is complete with all supplies needed to complete the piece including the sticking paste.
